Overview

This 7-day cultural journey centres around the vibrant Paro Tsechu, one of Bhutan’s most significant festivals, where sacred mask dances and age-old rituals come to life. In 2026, the festival will take place from 29th March to 2nd April, offering an ideal window to experience its full atmosphere.

Beyond the celebrations, the journey includes Thimphu, Punakha, and the iconic hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The itinerary remains fully customisable to suit your interests and pace.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 :

Arrival in Paro – Transfer to Thimphu

Your guide and driver will receive you at the Paro International airport and drive to the Hotel.

In the afternoon, visit Ta dzong (National museum of Bhutan) and Rinpung dzong built in 1644 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

In the evening, free to stroll in the town.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 2 :

Thimphu Tsechu and Sightseeing

In the morning, hike to the iconic Tiger’s nest monastery (Paro Taktsang). It is a 2 hours hike till the monastery from the base of the hill.

In the afternoon, visit Drugyal dzong, the defense fortress built in 1649 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

Then visit Kichu monastery, the oldest temple in Bhutan built in 659 AD by the Tibetan King Srongtsen Gampo.

In the evening, visit to a Bhutanese farmhouse.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 3 :

Thimphu – Punakha

In the Morning, drive to Shana and start the Trek to Thang Thanka (Start of Jomolhari trek in Bhutan).

Dinner and overnight in camp at the stone shelter.

Altitude: 3610 m; distance 22 Km; time 7 – 8 hours. (Ascent 770 m, Descent 10 m). Jomolhari trek difficulty: Strenuous.

Day 4 :

Punakha Sightseeing

Today, we pass Tegethang, where the yak herders’ camp in winter. You will see many yaks before we enter Jangothang base camp. There is also a ruined dzong nearby that used to guard Bhutan in ancient times against the Tibetan forces.

Dinner and overnight in camp.

Altitude: 4080 m; Distance 19 Km; Time 5 – 6 hours. (Ascent 480 m). Jomolhari trek difficulty level: Strenuous.

Day 5 :

Punakha – Paro

For day hikes, you have 3 options on this day at Jangothang.

Hike to Jomolhari glacier which is around 4 ½ hours (Back and forth).
Hike to Jichu Drake glacier which is around 3 hours (Back and forth).
Walk up the mountain between Jomolhari and Jichu Drake, the summit is at 5200 m with a great view of both the mountains. This is 8 hours (Back and forth).

Day 6 :

Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery

Today we see the breathtaking view of Jichu Drake, Jomolhari and Tsherim gang. Then climb to the Nyeley la pass at an altitude of 4,700 m and descend to Lingshi.

You can enjoy the beautiful view of Lingshi dzong.

Dinner and overnight in camp (Altitude is 4010 m).

Distance: 18 km, hiking time: 6-7 hours, ascent 840 m, descent: 870 m, Jomolhari trek difficulty level: Strenuous.

Day 7 :

Departure

We climb Yalila pass (4930 m), from where on a clear day, best views of Tserim gang, mount Jomolhari and Masagang will be seen.

Dinner and overnight in camp at Shodu. (Altitude: 4080 m).

Distance: 22 km, hiking time: 8-9 hours. (Ascent 940 m, descent 920 m). Jomolhari trek difficulty level: Strenuous.
