About Bhutan

Welcome to Bhutan!

Bhutan is a small Himalayan kingdom known for balancing modernization with cultural and environmental preservation. Instead of measuring progress only through economic growth, Bhutan has adopted the development philosophy of Gross National Happiness (GNH), which emphasizes sustainable development, environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and good governance. This unique development model prioritizes the well-being and happiness of its people over material wealth.

The people of Bhutan are warm, deeply spiritual, and strongly connected to their traditions. Buddhism shapes our daily lives, influencing values of compassion, harmony, and respect for people and nature. Bhutanese culture is reflected in jubilant festivals, local losars, Dromchoes and Tshechus. We are unique in every sense, our traditional dress (the Gho for men and Kira forwomen), ancient monasteries, and well-preserved art and architecture.

Since its exposure to the outside World, Bhutan has adopted “High Value, Low Volume” tourism policy to protect its environment and culture from mass tourism.

International tourists are required to pay a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of $100 which supports tourism infrastructure development, conservation, healthcare, and education, which is provided completely free to every Bhutanese. Visitors are encouraged to travel responsibly and experience authentic Bhutanese culture while minimizing environmental impact.

Tourists visit Bhutan for its breathtaking Himalayan landscapes, peaceful monasteries, trekking routes, vibrant festivals, and unique cultural experiences. Popular attractions include Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery), the capital city of Thimphu, and the scenic valleys of Bumthang, Pobjikha, Punakha and many more alike across the Country.

Bhutan is worth a visit for a rare opportunity to experience a country that values happiness, sustainability, spirituality, and cultural identity in a rapidly changing world. The visitors regard Bhutan as “The Peaceful Adventure travel destination” providing visitors with peace, authenticity, and a deeper understanding of balanced living.

Every visitor feels the spiritual touch, breathes clean air, meets mindful and loyal people around but the departure has always been hard and emotional.
